The Rolling Stones Museum: Protecting A Priceless Collection of Rock & Roll History

Matthew Lee is the Guinness World Record holder for the largest collection of Rolling Stones memorabilia. Containing over 100,000 items bursting with rock & roll history. He is now opening up a museum to share his passion with others. But of course, that came with the need for security.

How It All Happened

Matt started collecting Rolling Stones memorabilia in 1994 just as the internet was becoming more publicly accessible. He used the internet to trade memorabilia with other collectors online. The same way that you may have done with trading cards in the school playground.

The first time that he saw The Rolling Stones live was at their Voodoo Lounge tour at Wembley in 1995. Unfortunately, he was unable to purchase a £9 programme at the show because of a car breakdown on the way.

He has since continued to collect memorabilia, visit countless shows and had a display room set up in his house. The band themselves contacted him to borrow some of his collection for their exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. They borrowed around 80 items with 50 of those still on loan travelling the world. Matthew has always wanted to share his passion and loaning out these items was the first step in doing that.

Soon his display room became too small for all of his memorabilia so he went ahead and purchased a commercial space near to where he lives to convert into the museum. He has plans to further expand in the future. Click the images to have a closer look at some of the collection.

How Warrior Doors Have Helped

Matthew knew as soon as he purchased the space for the museum he would need to think about security. His office is local to the area and has been broken into 3 times in the past so he didn’t want to take that risk with his collection. He went to an alarm company who sent him over a few options of security door providers who they had worked with in the past and Matt set off to work researching to find the right thing for him. He knew he wanted steel doors but found that often although the steel was strong the glass within the products was not. Matt then came across a Warrior Doors glass testing video and from then on knew that this was the product that he wanted.

Another main reason for wanting stronger glass was to eliminate the need for a shutter. This allows his display to be seen by many even when he is not around without it being at risk. The premises is also a residential block containing only the museum and another commercial unit on the bottom floor so the tenants were pleased that a shutter wouldn’t be required and the aesthetics of the building would be upheld.

Warrior Doors installed a High Security Stainless Steel Entrance Door & Combination Frame and now Matt is able to start filling it up and share it with the public.

Comments From Matthew

  • I feel totally at peace and relaxed. Working with Warrior Doors was great. The process was well explained and being shown the remote control system has been invaluable when it comes to loading and unloading. I am able to let the door close and lock without having to use a key to regain entry. Tom was excellent and I loved how the box of keys was presented at the installation.

The closer on the door squeaked slightly initially but Warrior Doors returned within 48 hours to resolve the issue and there are now no problems.

I would thoroughly recommend Warrior Doors to anyone who is looking for a secure door and I will be in touch with them again in the future.

This is the first time that they have ever done that for a non-official book.

The book is a high quality hardcover and will be released on October 14th 2021. You can pre-order it now by clicking here.
