Warrior Doors says intelligent physical security is becoming a strategic investment as luxury retailers strengthen protection against increasingly organised high-value theft.

A series of high-profile raids targeting jewellers and luxury retailers has reinforced the importance of physical security that does more than resist forced entry. Across London and other major UK cities, organised criminal groups have demonstrated the speed and sophistication with which valuable stock can be targeted, prompting many retailers to review not only the strength of their premises but also how access is controlled throughout the working day.

Industry data highlighted by the Evening Standard earlier this year reported 18 high-value attacks across the UK during the first quarter of 2026, with London accounting for seven of those incidents. Many of the offences involved coordinated teams, motorcycles or stolen vehicles, and rapid-entry techniques designed to gain access within seconds.

For Birmingham-based Warrior Doors, the changing landscape is encouraging more retailers to consider time-lock security doors as part of a wider security strategy designed to reduce opportunity while maintaining a welcoming environment for customers.

Managing Director Brett Barratt believes retailers are increasingly recognising that physical security is no longer simply about resistance ratings, but about intelligently controlling when and how access is permitted.

“The most effective security solution is one that combines strength with control,” said Barratt. “A time-lock door introduces certainty into the access process. It allows retailers to manage entry in a measured, controlled way while maintaining an excellent customer experience.”

Unlike conventional entrance systems, time-lock security doors introduce a programmed delay before access is granted. The controlled delay significantly changes the dynamics of an attempted robbery by removing the possibility of immediate entry while giving staff greater confidence in following established security procedures.

The technology has become particularly relevant for jewellers, luxury watch retailers, bullion dealers and businesses handling high-value assets, where opening and closing periods traditionally present the greatest operational exposure.

Barratt believes the industry is moving towards layered security, where architectural design, accredited physical protection and intelligent operational controls work together.

“Luxury retail has evolved enormously over the past decade. Stores are brighter, more open and designed to create memorable customer experiences. Security has evolved alongside that. Today’s solutions are integrated into the building and the customer journey rather than appearing as barriers.”

Warrior Doors designs and manufactures stainless steel security doors independently tested to LPCB LPS 1175 standards, with many installations forming part of wider security schemes incorporating Secured by Design principles. Its time-lock doors provide an additional operational layer, allowing businesses to regulate access during trading hours without compromising aesthetics or day-to-day efficiency.

The company says demand is increasingly being driven not only by luxury retail but also by financial institutions, cash handling facilities, pharmacies and other organisations responsible for protecting valuable assets while maintaining controlled public access.

Barratt expects intelligent entrance security to become an increasingly important consideration as organisations invest in resilient, future-ready premises.

“Physical security should support the way a business operates, not interrupt it. Time-lock technology gives organisations greater control over their entrances while complementing high-performance security doors that have been independently tested to recognised industry standards. It is about creating confidence for staff, reassurance for customers and resilience for the business.”

As retailers continue investing in premium customer environments, security specialists believe the next generation of entrance systems will increasingly combine certified physical protection with intelligent access management, helping businesses protect people, property and high-value assets without compromising the quality of the retail experience.
